Miners One Run Short of Victory Against Oilers
Cold streak continues for Mat-Su
After a Thursday thunderstrike by the Oilers, Mat-Su knew that they would be in for a dogfight as they chased their first win of the series at Coral Seymour Memorial Ballpark. One of the biggest questions that the Miners would face would be whether or not their offense would catch fire once again or if the cold streak would continue.
As per usual in this series, the game started off quietly with both teams displaying exceptional pitching. Rocco Bernadina started on the mound for Mat-Su in this game and was locked in from the word go. Through the first 4 Innings, Bernadina gave up just 1 Hit and 0 Runs to the Oilers bats. However, he was not alone as the Oilers pitching managed to respond to the pressure with Ryan Hughes and Emerson Fleck holding off the Miners bats for the first half of the game.
In the 5th Inning, the Oilers were able to finally get the scoring started with a Max Roffwarg RBI Single on a bases loaded situation. However, the Miners defense did a great job of limiting the Oilers from there on out to keep the score at just 1-0. Mat-Su's offense could not be held back forever as Nick Bisaccia entered the game as a pinch hitter and immediately pinched the Oilers with an RBI Single that would tie it up at 1. Peninsula was quick to respond with a run of their own after the stretch, but now the game was on.
The final 2 Innings of the game saw unprecedented success for the 2024 Miners. Dom Patrizi would go demolition mode on a baseball with Solo Home Run to tie the game, the 1st Home Run of the year for Mat-Su. With the game tied at 2, the sky was the limit, however it would not last. The bottom of the 8th saw multiple defensive mistakes by the Miners and tough inning for Luke Smith and Nico Tomasello from the mound that allowed the Oilers to score 3 runs and take a commanding 5-2 lead. Mat-Su was running out of time.
In the top of the 9th, the resurrection of the offense was complete with the Miners managing a Single from Ryan Richard and then a clutch RBI Triple from Drake Kerr. Then Kyle Mccausland would reach first on an error which would score Drake Kerr and bring it to a 1 Run game. The furious rally though would end after a Brandyn Durand Strikeout would end the game with the Miners coming 1 Run short of victory.
With a 4th straight loss, the Miners have fallen below .500 for the 1st time this season, and are now in desperation mode with this series as they look to get something before going back to Palmer. Saturday is now or never for the Miners against the Oilers.
