Miners Cruise Past Bucs on the Road
The Mat-Su Miners defeated the Anchorage Bucs 7-1 Tuesday night in Anchorage, climbing to 11-5 and dropping the Bucs to 8-7.
The Miners are on a roll, winning five straight games on the way to a two-and-a-half game lead atop the Alaska Baseball League standings.
The Miners' pitching staff dazzled again, limiting the powerful Bucs offense to eight hits and just one run. Sam Houston's Connor Monday got the start and went through four innings of no-run baseball before being relieved by Long State Beach arm Collin Miskelly. Miskelly delivered two perfect innings before Barry College pitcher Jack Ensell would come in and give up the only Bucs run of the game, before Garrett Baumann shut down the eighth and the ninth to close the game for Mat-Su.
The Miners' offense did what they've done throughout the win streak, getting another 12 hits and another three runs with two outs off the Bucs' pitching staff. Central Missouri's Lincoln Stephenson and Pomona-Pitzer's Greg Pierantoni got RBI hits in the top of the second to get the scoring going and never looked back from there.
The Miners go back home for a game versus the Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks Wednesday night before taking on the Bucs in Anchorage again to try and take a dominating lead in the ABL standings.
