Miners Raise Win Streak to Six Games With Win Over Chugiak
Miners move to 12-5 in ABL standings
The Mat-Su Miners defeated the Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks 11-4 on Wednesday night, moving to 12-5 and dropping the Chinooks to 5-11.
The Miners now have a commanding three and a half game lead in the Alaska Baseball League standings after a win and a Bucs loss in Anchorage. The Miners got it done on both sides of the ball tonight.
Michael Cunneely got the start for the Miners and got through five innings of work, giving up three runs and an early lead to Chugiak. However, it was Kade Arn who shut down the rest of the game, giving up one unearned run in the last four innings to get his first win of the year for Mat-Su.
The Miners' offense started slow but ignited in the bottom of the sixth, scoring six total runs and taking the lead for good. Johnson University's Luke Wilson had an outstanding day, going 4-for-5 with an RBI. Greg Pierantoni had three hits, and Carter Eberhard tallied two RBI.
"No one has doubted me or not believed in me from the beginning of the season, and it was great to come through for them today," said the Johnson University sophomore Luke Wilson during a postgame interview.
Everything looks perfect for the Miners, and the current six-game win streak stays alive into at least the game versus the Anchorage Bucs on Thursday night. If the Miners knock off the Bucs again, the standings turn into a one-team race as the Miners would have a commanding four and a half game lead with 12 games left.
