Miners Get Revenge on Glacier Pilots to Spoil Ritch Price’s Last Ever Game
Miners close out the regular season with 5-4 win
The Miners defeated the Glacier Pilots 5-4 in another close game to close out regular season play for the Alaska Baseball League. The Miners went 8-2 against the Pilots this summer and finished the regular season at 22-6, while the Glacier Pilots had one of their worst seasons in recent memory, finishing 10-20.
The Miners' 14-game win streak ended against the Pilots a few days ago, but the Miners got revenge. The Pilots were playing for nothing besides their legendary head coach's last game. Ritch Price, a University of Kansas legend after his historic coaching stint from 2003-22, is expected to retire from baseball and enjoy time with family next summer instead of returning to the Glacier Pilots. It puts an end to a lengthy and successful coaching career for Ritch Price.
This game was another back-and-forth contest, but the Miners' bullpen and starting pitcher, Boman Marks, held them off enough to close out the game and end the season with a win. Karson Grout recorded a two-run homer, the second of his season, and Carter Geffre had two doubles.
Boman Marks, the Alaska native from Colony High School, pitched himself to the win while the offense did just enough. The Miners host the Top of the World Championship starting Monday for the third time in five years, but have failed to hoist the trophy since 2018. The Anchorage Bucs will look to win their third title since 2019.
