Carter Geffre's Home Run Lifts Miners Past Glacier Pilots
Tenth victory in a row for the Miners
The Mat-Su Miners defeated the Anchorage Glacier Pilots 5-4 Wednesday night, earning their 10th victory in a row and moving to 16-5. The Pilots dropped to 8-13.
The first few innings of the game were all Glacier Pilots. Anchorage got out to a 3-0 lead through the fourth inning. The Miners had just one hit up to that point.
However, things changed in the fifth. California Baptist's Carter Eberhard poked a RBI single to center field before Iowa catcher Carter Geffre tied the game in one swing with a two-run homer.
The Miners would take the lead in the bottom of the sixth after new Rider University recruit Eliot Medlock smashed a RBI double, and BYU catcher Ridge Erickson would follow with a sacrifice fly to make the game 5-3.
The Glacier Pilots didn't go down without a fight. Anchorage would bring the game within one on a double by Andrew Becker that nearly snuck over the right field fence. However, California Baptist's Michael Malki got the save and the seventh win over the Pilots this season.
The Pilots are now three games out of the second playoff spot behind the Anchorage Bucs, while the magic number has moved to two for the Miners to clinch a championship spot. The Miners can secure a spot with a win over the Anchorage Bucs Thursday night.
